Etymology: Either < French quintolet (although this is apparently first attested later: 1922; < either Italian quinto or classical Latin quīntus (see below) + -olet (in French triolet triolet n., sextolet sextolet n.)), or directly < either Italian quinto (see quintetto n.) or classical Latin quīntus (see quint n.¹) + -olet (in triolet n., sextolet n.). Compare earlier quintole n., quintuplet n. 1b.
