Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymon: Italian quintetto.
Etymology: < Italian quintetto quintetto n., with omission of the ending. Compare French quintette (1801), German Quintett (1805 or earlier). Compare earlier duet n. and slightly later quartet n. 2.
