1866 F. O. Ward in Chem. News 1 June 263/2 I would venture..to deprecate his continuing the series..by expressions with prefixes derived from the Greek, such as penta-valent and hexa-valent. He properly uses the term ‘multi-valent’, not ‘poly-valent’, and by parity of reasoning will see the propriety of substituting quinqui-valent and sexa-valent for his above-mentioned Greek and Latin composites.
