Etymology: < radio- comb. form2 + -logy comb. form, in sense 1 probably after French radiologie (1900 or earlier). Compare German Radiologie (1903 or earlier).
1. The branch of medicine concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of disease by means of X-rays, other forms of ionizing radiation, and (in later use) other imaging techniques (such as ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging). Also: radiological examination (often of a part of the body); radiological characteristics of a disease, part of the body, etc.
