Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin quīncupedal, quīnquepedal.
Etymology: < classical Latin quīncupedal, variant (with -cu- for -que- before a labial) of classical Latin quīnquepedal five-foot rule < quīnque five (see quinque- comb. form) + ped- , pēs foot (see -ped comb. form) + -al , suffix forming nouns. With use as adjective compare classical Latin quīncupedālis , quīnquepedālis of five feet, and pedal adj.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
