A genus of very large pterodactyloid pterosaurs known from fossils of the Late Cretaceous period in North America, whose wingspan may have reached around 11 m (37 ft); (also quetzalcoatlus) a pterosaur of this genus.

1996 Daily Tel. 17 Oct. 16/2 The Texas fossil evidence suggests that the inland quetzalcoatlus may also have been a fish-eater.
2001 Time 16 July 56/2 (advt.) Named after the Aztec god who took the form of a feathered serpent, Quetzalcoatlus was nearly 20 feet long, with a wingspan of 40 feet... It had an extremely long neck and a six-foot-long beak.
