Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Quetzalcoatlus.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Quetzalcoatlus, genus name (D. A. Lawson 1975, in Science 16 May 678) < Quetzalcoatl n.
Palaeontology.
A genus of very large pterodactyloid pterosaurs known from fossils of the Late Cretaceous period in North America, whose wingspan may have reached around 11 m (37 ft); (also quetzalcoatlus) a pterosaur of this genus.
