Origin: Partly a borrowing from Latin. Probably also partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin quadrantalis ; quadrant n.1, -al suffix1.
Etymology: In sense 1 < post-classical Latin quadrantalis (1614 in the source translated in quot. 1616 at sense 1a) < quadrant- , quadrans (see quadrant n.1) + classical Latin -ālis -al suffix1. In senses 2 and 3 probably independently < quadrant n.1 + -al suffix1.With sense 3 compare earlier quadrantic adj. 2.
