Compare Middle French quartenaire (adjective) suffering from quartan fever (1300 in Old French, subsequently in late 16th cent. in Paré), quartenier (noun) person suffering from quartan fever (second half of the 14th cent.), Middle French, French quartenaire (noun) person suffering from quartan fever (second half of the 15th cent.).
