Etymology: Origin unknown. Compare later squeeze v. and squize v., and also squiss v., squish v.Perhaps compare quash v.; the γ. forms could alternatively be interpreted as showing a variant of that word rather than of the present word. Alternatively, perhaps compare Old English cwȳsan to crush, dash down, gecwȳsan to crush, bruise (of unknown origin), although this would only account well for the form quyse.
Obsolete.

Origin: A variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: wheeze v.
Etymology: Variant of wheeze v. Sc. National Dict. (at Queese) records the word (in form quease) as still in use in Perthshire in 1967.
