raccoonn.Origin: A borrowing from Virginia Algonquian. Etymon: Virginia Algonquian aroughcun. Etymology: < Virginia Algonquian aroughcun, aroughcoune (also transcribed as rahaugcum, rarowcun, raugroughcum, and arathkone), of unknown origin. The form raccoon is now more common than racoon , especially in North American use.
