Origin: A borrowing from Spanish. Etymon: Spanish querida.
Etymology: < Spanish querida a female sweetheart, a darling (late 15th cent.), use as noun of feminine of querido , past participle of querer to seek out, desire, love (see queer v.1; compare querido n.).In the form kerida probably influenced by Tagalog kerida mistress (also < Spanish querida). O.E.D. Suppl. (1982) gives the non-naturalized pronunciation (keri·ða) /keˈriða/.
1. In Spain and Spanish-speaking countries: a female sweetheart, a darling. Frequently used as a form of address.
