Etymology: < German Quercin (1830) < English quercia (see quot. 1829; < classical Latin quercus oak (see quercine adj.) + English -ia , suffix) + German -in -in suffix¹.

Chemistry.

A bitter crystalline cyclic alcohol obtained from the bark and acorns of various species of oak, and found also in other plants.Quercin is a stereoisomer of hexahydroxycyclohexane; C₆H₁₂O₆. It is unlikely that the pure compound was isolated before the mid 20th cent.
