单词 quek
释义

quekn.

Forms: Middle English queek, Middle English queke, Middle English–1500s (1600s historical) quek, 1600s quec (historical).
Origin: A borrowing from Dutch. Etymons: Dutch quec-, quaec-, quaecspel.
Etymology: < Middle Dutch quec-, queec-, queke-, variants of quaec- (in quaecspel boardgame played with dice, perhaps similar to tric-trac; Dutch kwaakspeel , kweekspeel , now historical) < quaken to play this game (related to queken to shake, agitate; Dutch †kweken ), apparently < the same Germanic base as quake v.1, with reference to the shaking of a dicebox.
Obsolete (historical in later use).
A game played on a chequerboard; (also) the board itself.
