Etymology: Originally (in quot. 1551) < post-classical Latin quantitativus quantitative adj. + -ly suffix2. In later use also < quantitative adj. + -ly suffix2. Compare post-classical Latin quantitative , adverb (from 12th cent. in British sources; 13th cent. in a continental source), Middle French, French quantitativement (1585 in Middle French in an isolated attestation in sense 1, subsequently from 1846 in this sense; 1845 in sense 2).
