Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French quand même.
Etymology: < French quand même (adverb) all the same, nevertheless (1824 or earlier; second half of the 16th cent. in Middle French as conjunction in sense ‘although’) < quand although (c1100; c1050 in temporal sense ‘when’; < classical Latin quandō < quam , accusative singular feminine of quī who (see who pron.) + -dō (particle) towards, around < the same Indo-European base as to prep.; compare dōnec until) + même same (see plus ça change phr.).
All the same, even so, nevertheless.
