Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: pyo- comb. form, -oid suffix.
Etymology: < pyo- comb. form + -oid suffix, after French pyoïde ( H. Lebert Physiologie pathologique (1845) I. i. 46). Compare ancient Greek πυοειδής like pus.
Medicine.
Resembling (that of) pus. Cf. puruloid adj.
