Etymology: < ancient Greek Πυλαγόρας delegate sent to the Amphictyonic Council < Πύλαι , the name of the Thermopylae (the older place of assembly of the Pythian Amphictyony) + ἀγορά agora n.1 Compare Middle French, French Pylagore (1568 in the passage translated in quot. 1598).
