单词 quass
释义

quassv.

Forms: 1500s–1600s quasse.
Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Middle Low German. Or (ii) a borrowing from German. Etymons: Middle Low German quāsen; German quaßen.
Etymology: < either Middle Low German quāsen, quassen (German regional (Low German) quasen, quaasen, etc.) or early modern German quaßen (Middle High German quāzen; German regional (central, east central) quasen, quoßen), both in sense ‘to eat or drink immoderately or greedily, to feast, to be a glutton’, both of uncertain origin. The narrowing of meaning in English may perhaps result from association with quaff v.
Obsolete.
intransitive. To drink copiously or in excess; to quaff. Also transitive.
