Etymology: < the unattested Norn cognate of Norwegian pundar steelyard, kind of balance (see pounder n.2), with (in α and β forms) alteration of the ending after poundler n. (compare forms at that entry). Compare earlier pounder n.2The forms poundlar, poundler probably show the influence of pound n.1
Scottish (chiefly Orkney). Now historical.
