Etymology: < German Punktograph (apparently not dated in dictionaries of German; compare quot. 1901) < Punkt point (Middle High German punct , punkt , punt ; < classical Latin punctum : see point n.1) + -o- -o- connective + -graph -graph comb. form.
Surgery. rare. disused.
A device used in conjunction with fluoroscopy to ascertain the precise position of a foreign body embedded in tissue.

1901 Lancet 4 May 1292/1 For the surgical localisation of foreign bodies, such as bullets embedded in the tissues, he [sc. Dr. Rosenthal of Munich] had, in conjunction with Surgeon-General Professor von Angerer, devised an instrument called the ‘punktograph’.
