Etymology: < Middle French pusillanimite (1279 in Old French; also pusillamite , apparently only in the English poet John Gower's Mirour de l'omme (c1376–9); French pusillanimité ) < post-classical Latin pusillanimitas (Vetus Latina, Vulgate) < pusillanimis (see pusillanimous adj.) + classical Latin -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix). Compare slightly later pusillanimous adj.
The quality or character of being pusillanimous; lack of courage or fortitude; cowardice, faint-heartedness; an instance of this.
