Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; originally modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: Latin pulvīnus , -iform comb. form.
Etymology: < classical Latin pulvīnus cushion (see pulvinus n.) + -iform comb. form; originally after French pulviniforme (1851 in the passage translated in quot. 1851). Compare pulvinated adj. and earlier pulvinate adj.R. G. Mayne (see quot. 1858) gives also a Latin form pulviniformis.
