Etymology: < classical Latin pulvīnātus cushion-shaped (see pulvinate adj.) + -ed suffix2. With the specific use in architecture in sense 1 compare Italian pulvino pulvino n. In sense 3 after pulvinus n. Compare earlier pulvinate adj. and the French parallel at that entry.
