Etymology: < pulverize v. + -ation suffix, after post-classical Latin pulverizatio (also pulverisatio) reduction to dust (1267 in a British source), action of sprinkling with dust (c1210 in a British source) and French pulvérisation reduction to dust (15th cent. in Middle French), action of distributing a liquid by means of a pulverizer (1869 in Littré).
