Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin puls- , pellere , -ive suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin puls-, past participial stem of pellere to drive, impel (see pulse v.) + -ive suffix. Compare Middle French pulsif impelling, propulsive (c1377 in an apparently isolated attestation). Compare earlier pulsative adj., expulsive adj., repulsive adj., and slightly later impulsive adj.
