Origin: Apparently a borrowing from French. Etymon: French poulaillerie.
Etymology: Apparently (with loss of the second syllable) < Middle French poulaillerie, poulallerie, etc., poultry (late 14th cent.; French poulaillerie , now regional) < poulaille poultry (see pullaile n.) + -erie -ery suffix. Compare Middle French poulerie henhouse (1437 in an apparently isolated attestation). Compare earlier pullayly n., pullaile n., poultry n. 1.
Obsolete.
Domestic fowl collectively; = poultry n. 1. Also: a place where domestic fowl are reared; = poultry n. 2b.
