Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; apparently originally modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: Latin putris , -form comb. form2.
Etymology: < classical Latin putris rotten (see putrid adj.) + -form comb. form2 (compare -iform comb. form), apparently originally after French putriforme (1756 in the passage translated in quot. 1764 as puriforme).
