Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin pullārius , -an suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin pullārius (adjective) of or relating to chickens, especially relating to the sacred chickens used in divination, (noun) keeper of the sacred chickens ( < pullus young animal, chicken (see pull n.2) + -ārius -ary suffix1) + -an suffix. Compare pulletier n.
Originally Roman History. rare.
Of or relating to chickens or fowls (in early use, sacred chickens used for divination).
