Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Psammoma.
Etymology: < German Psammoma ( R. Virchow Die krankhaften Geschwülste (1864–5) II. 108; now Psammom ) < ancient Greek ψάμμος sand (see psammo- comb. form) + German -oma -oma comb. form.
Pathology. Now rare.
A tumour, esp. a meningioma, containing rounded, laminated, calcified concretions resembling grains of sand.
