Etymology: < post-classical Latin psychopannychia (1545 in the title of a work by Calvin: see quot. 1545) < ancient Greek ψυχο- psycho- comb. form + παννύχιος lasting all night < παν- pan- comb. form + νύχιος belonging to night, taking place at night < νυχ- , alternative stem of νυκτ- , νύξ night, cognate with night n. + -ιος , suffix forming adjectives. With the α. forms compare -y suffix3, and also Middle French psychopannychie (1558 in a translation of Calvin's work; rare).Compare the following example of post-classical Latin psychopannychia :1545 Calvin (title) Psychopannychia, qua refellitur [eorum] error, qui animas post mortem usque ad ultimum iudicium dormire putant.Compare also the following earlier examples of post-classical Latin Psychopannychia in an English context as the title of Calvin's work:1586 W.
