Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Psychoma.
Etymology: < German Psychoma (1904 in Haeckel Lebenswunder 521, the passage translated in quot. 1904), apparently < ancient Greek ψυχή psyche n. + -ωμα (see -oma comb. form).
Now historical.
Haeckel's name for: the capacity to experience sensation or perception; the fact of possessing a mind or soul (as a property of a physical thing or substance).

On our monistic principles they are not immaterial forces, but based on the general sensation of substance, which we call psychoma [Ger. Psychoma], and add to energy and matter as a third attribute of substance.
