Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin psalloides.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin psalloides (1578 or earlier), irregularly < ancient Greek ψάλλειν to twitch, twang, play (see psalm n.) + classical Latin -oīdēs -oid suffix. Compare psaloid adj. Compare also psalterium n. 3 and lyra n. 4.Compare the following examples of post-classical Latin psalloides in English contexts:1578 J. Banister Hist. Man viii.sig. Eeiiij v Under this lyeth an other portion named Fornix and Psalloides, in figure of a halfe circle.1811 R. Hooper Quincy's Lexicon-medicum (new ed.) Psalloides... Applied..to the inner surface of the fornix of the brain.
Anatomy. Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
Shaped like a harp; spec. designating the commissure of the fornix of the brain.
