Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin psychologico-.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin psychologico- (1624 in psychologico-medicus (in a work title)), combining form of psychologicus psychological adj. Compare French psychologico- (formations in which are found from at least the second half of the 19th cent.), German psychologisch- (formations in which are found from at least the late 18th cent., e.g. in psychologisch-katechetisch (1785 or earlier)).Found in a small number of compounds exemplified below, apparently earliest in psychologico-moral, an adaptation of either post-classical Latin psychologico-moralis (1784 or earlier) or German psychologisch-moralisch (1797 or earlier; perhaps after Latin). Formations within English are found from the first half of the 19th cent.
