Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin prūrīginōsus.
Etymology: < classical Latin prūrīginōsus (adjective) affected by itching (2nd cent. a.d.) < prūrīgin- , prūrīgo (see prurigo n.) + -ōsus -ous suffix. Compare Middle French, French prurigineux (a1365), Italian pruriginoso (1583). Compare later prurigo n.
