Origin: Apparently a borrowing from French. Etymon: French prunelle.
Etymology: Apparently < French prunelle sloe liqueur (although this is first attested slightly later (1904), but compare quot. 1897; compare earlier prunelet prunelet n., vin de prunelle (a1420 in Middle French), jus de prunelle (1694)), specific use of prunelle sloe (see prunello n.). Compare earlier prunello n. and prunelet n.
A French sloe brandy.
