Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin pruīna , -escence suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin pruīna hoar frost (see pruinous adj.) + -escence suffix, after efflorescence n., etc. Compare earlier pruinate adj., pruinose adj., and pruinous adj.
Chiefly Entomology.
The condition of being pruinose.
