Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Puligny-Montrachet.
Etymology: < Puligny-Montrachet, the name of a commune in the Côte de Beaune wine-growing district in the department of Côte d'Or in Burgundy, east-central France (so called from 1879, formerly Puligny ; the famous vineyard of Montrachet is partly in this commune and partly in the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet). Compare French Puligny-Montrachet wine from Puligny-Montrachet (not dated in dictionaries of French). Compare Montrachet n., chassagne n.
A white burgundy wine of Chardonnay grapes, from vineyards located in the Puligny-Montrachet area.
