单词 puddy
释义

puddyadj.

Brit. /ˈpʌdi/, U.S. /ˈpədi/
Origin: Probably formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: pud n.2, -y suffix1.
Etymology: Probably < pud n.2 + -y suffix1.It has been suggested that the word is attested very much earlier in the surname Puddifoot : compare Roger Pudifat (1188), Herbert Pudifot (1212), etc. This depends on the hypothesis that the present word is not derived ultimately from pudding n. but that both words derive from a shared base: see discussion at pudding n., as also for a suggested cognate in Middle Low German.
Now rare.
Short, thickset; stumpy; podgy.
