Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; perhaps modelled on a French lexical item, or perhaps modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: pseudo- comb. form, tuberculosis n.
Etymology: < pseudo- comb. form + tuberculosis n., probably after French pseudo-tuberculose (1884 or earlier) or German Pseudotuberculose (1886 or earlier; now usually Pseudotuberkulose). Compare scientific Latin pseudotuberculosis, specific epithet (1889).
Chiefly Veterinary Medicine.
Any disease producing granulomatous inflammation similar to that of tuberculosis; esp. caseous lymphadenitis of sheep, caused by Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis, and yersiniosis.

1959 R. Lovell in Stableforth & Galloway Infectious Dis. Animals I. vi. 250 Caseous lymphadenitis of sheep. This is a chronic disease frequently referred to as pseudo-tuberculosis and widely distributed in South America, Australia and New Zealand.
