Etymology: < Anglo-Norman and Middle French propice well-disposed, favourably inclined (late 12th cent. in Old French), favourable, advantageous (late 12th cent. in Anglo-Norman) < classical Latin propitius favourably inclined, well-disposed (see propitious adj.). Compare Catalan propici (14th cent.), Spanish propicio (first half of the 13th cent.), Italian propizio (beginning of the 13th cent. as †propicio ). Compare later propitious adj.
Obsolete.
