Etymology: < post-classical Latin prolepticus or its etymon Hellenistic Greek προληπτικός (see proleptic adj.) + -al suffix1. Compare earlier prolepsis n., and also proleptically adv. N.E.D. (1908) gives the pronunciation as (prole·ptikăl, -lī·pt) /prəʊˈlɛptɪkəl/ /-ˈliːpt-/.
