Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin prōstrāt- , prōsternere , -ive suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin prōstrāt-, past participial stem of prōsternere prostern v. + -ive suffix. Compare post-classical Latin prostrativus that prostrates (14th cent. in a British source). N.E.D. (1909) indicates the stress as ˈprostrative.
Obsolete. rare.
