Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin prorogator.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin prorogator person who prolongs, person who dispenses or distributes (5th cent.), ruling planet of a nativity (1635 in the work translated in quot. 1701 at sense 1) < classical Latin prōrogāt- , past participial stem of prōrogāre prorogue v. + -or -or suffix.
1. Astrology. The ruling planet of a nativity, which determines the length of life of the native. Also called apheta, hyleg. Contrasted with anareta.
