Chiefly Botany.
A portion of a plant, fungus, etc., that is capable, when detached, of giving rise to a new individual by asexual or sexual reproduction (e.g. a leaf bud, bulbil, seed, or spore). Also occasionally: any of the products of asexual reproduction in certain invertebrates. Cf. propagulum n.
