Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin pronuntiabilis.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin pronuntiabilis that can be pronounced (6th cent. or earlier) < classical Latin prōnuntiāre pronounce v. + -bilis -ble suffix. Compare Anglo-Norman pronunciable (of a sentence) that can be pronounced (end of the 13th cent. or earlier in legal use), Spanish pronunciable that can be pronounced (late 16th cent.). Compare earlier pronounceable adj. and the French parallels cited at that entry. N.E.D. (1908) also gives a partial pronunciation (-ʃiăb'l) -/ʃɪəb(ə)l/.
