Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin prōdūcent-, prōdūcēns.
Etymology: < classical Latin prōdūcent-, prōdūcēns, present participle of prōdūcere produce v.; in post-classical Latin also used as noun, denoting a person who brings forth or produces (5th cent. in Augustine). With use as noun compare also German Produzent (1559). Compare earlier producer n.

That produces; in early use spec. (Ecclesiastical Law) that brings a witness or document before a court. Obsolete.
