Biochemistry.

A dark red crystalline pigment, C₂₀H₂₅N₃O, with antibiotic properties, which is produced by certain bacteria of the genus Serratia (family Enterobacteriaceae), esp. S. marcescens, and has a molecule containing three linked pyrrole rings.
