Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: pro- prefix2, Latin cursivus.
Etymology: < pro- prefix2 + post-classical Latin cursivus cursive adj. Compare earlier precursive adj.Apparently re-formed in the late 20th century. The form in quot. 1659 may perhaps simply show an occasional variant of precursive adj.: compare note at pre- prefix.

Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from French. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: French procursif; Latin procursivus.
Etymology: < French procursif (in épilepsie procursive : D. M. Bourneville and P. Bricon 1887, in Arch. de neurol. 13 321) or its etymon post-classical Latin procursivus (in epilepsia procursiva : A. Boate Observationes medicæ, de affectibus omissis (1649) vi. sig. B3v) < classical Latin prōcurs- , past participial stem of prōcurrere to run forward (see procurrent adj.) + -īvus -ive suffix; compare cursive adj.
Originally: (Medicine) designating a form of epilepsy in which the seizures are characterized by a sudden, impulsive running forward; also figurative; (disused). Later: (gen.) characterized by running forward (rare).
