Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin prōcurrent-, prōcurrēns.
Etymology: < classical Latin prōcurrent-, prōcurrēns projecting, extended, use as adjective of present participle of prōcurrere to run forward, to project, extend < prō- pro- prefix1 + currere to run (see current adj.).
Chiefly Zoology.
Running forwards; continuing or tapering forward at the base; spec. (in bony fishes) designating or relating to the slender, unbranched, unsegmented fin rays at the leading edges of a caudal fin, anterior to the principal rays.
