Etymology: < classical Latin prōmulgātor person who promulgates or proposes publicly < prōmulgāt- , past participial stem of prōmulgāre promulgate v. + -or -or suffix. Compare Middle French, French promulgateur (1567 in an isolated attestation; subsequently from 1771), Spanish promulgador (16th cent.), Italian promulgatore (1354). Compare slightly earlier promulgater n., and also promulger n.
A person who promulgates or makes a public proclamation of something.
